Chamomile Calming Comfort for the Summer Season
Chamomile isn't just a soothing tea for humans, it can also be a gentle herbal ally for our furry companions during the warmer months. Known for its calming, anti-inflammatory, and skin soothing properties, chamomile offers a natural way to support pets through summer stress and irritation.
Benefits of Chamomile
Calming and anxiety relief; Summer brings travel, visitors and noisy celebrations, all of which can stress our pets. Chamomile can help ease mild anxiety, restlessness, and irritability in dogs and cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs.
Skin soothing support; Chamomile's natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties make it ideal for itchy or irritated summer skin. It can help soothe insect bites, minor rashes, and heat irritation.
Digestive comfort; For pets with mild tummy upsets (often caused by stress or heat), chamomile tea can ease mild bloating or gas.
How to make Chamomile tea
What you'll need;
1 x chamomile tea bag (organic & caffeine free) or 1 tsp dried chamomile flowers
1 cup boiled water
Directions;
- Steep the tea or flowers in hot water for 5-10 minutes
- Allow it to cool completely to room temperature
- Strain out any flowers if used
How to use Chamomile for pets
For calming support; Offer a few teaspoons (for small pets like rabbits or guinea pigs) or a tablespoon (for small dogs) of cooled chamomile tea in their water or on a small treat.
Always start with small amounts to see how your pet responds
For skin care; Use cooled chamomile tea as a gentle rinse or dab it onto itchy or inflamed area with a soft cloth or cotton ball.
Safe for dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea pigs, just be sure to keep them warm and dry afterward if used as a skin rinse.
For eye cleaning; Use a fresh cotton pad dipped in cooled chamomile tea to gently wipe around the eyes, remember one pad per eye in order to not cross contaminate!
Safety Tips
Always use unsweetened, caffeine free chamomile. Avoid essential oils or concentrated extracts, these can be too strong for pets. If your pet has plant allergies is pregnant or takes medication, check with your vet first.
Never use chamomile as a substitute for prescribed medication or veterinary care
