Fennel is a rich source of vitamin C, numerous B vitamins, protein and dietary fibre. It is also exceptionally rich in calcium, iron, manganese and magnesium, and a good source of phosphorus, potassium and zinc
Fennel is good for the digestive system. So it’s particularly beneficial for any dog who suffers from any kind of digestive issue such as indigestion, colic and wind.
Fennel also helps support a healthy immune system, helps promote strong teeth and bones, and can also help freshen a dog’s breath. It’s even used as a natural remedy for kennel cough and as a natural de-wormer, and due to its richness in vitamins, it’s also said to be good for the eyesight.
Fennel is non-toxic and safe for dogs to consume in moderation. However, like any new food item you introduce into your dog’s diet or treat regimen – start with small amounts of fennel at first.
Though generally safe some studies suggest that large quantities of fennels may cause uterine contractions leading up to miscarriage incidences on pregnant pets- so avoid giving it if your dog is pregnant until consulted by the veterinarian first
Start by sprinkling small portions of fennel on your dog’s food. It’s a great way to boost the nutrition of commercial dog foods. If your dog is sensitive to any changes to their food, they might notice and not like it, so try a small amount at first.
In some cases, fennel may cause stomach upset in dogs, especially if fed in large quantities. Start with a small amount of fennel seeds and observe your for any signs of digestive discomfort.
